BIF NAKED teams up with FURBEARERDEFENDERS!

July 19th 2010 Vancouver B.C.,Juno Award-winning, multi-platinum record selling, Canadian rock singer, Bif Naked, has joined the fight to ban the sale and import of cat and dog fur in Canada. In an open letter to her fellow Canadians, and on behalf of the animal protection organization, Fur-Bearer Defenders, Bif Naked demonstrates her support for the private members bill C-439, an act that would amend the Hazardous Products Act and ban products made with cat and dog fur from crossing the border into Canada. ³I am concerned about the domestic cat and dog fur trade that is happening overseas, and I support legislation to ban the import and sale of these products. I am writing this letter to show my support for Bill-C439², says Bif Naked. Each year, an estimated two million dogs and cats are slaughtered for their fur. Their skins are used to make trim on coats, toys, hats and figurines. The United States and the European Union, have banned cat and dog fur, but Canada still accepts unlabelled fur into our country and has no law to prohibit the sale of dog and cat fur. Member of Parliament, Anita Neville, (Liberal, located in Winnipeg, MB) has introduced a private members bill, C-439 that if approved, would amend the Hazardous Products Act to include dog and cat fur. Fur-Bearer Defenders, with the financial support from LUSH Handmade Cosmetics Company, is currently lobbying the Canadian Government to ban dog and cat fur.
