The Haves+The Have-Nots VS The Turkeys…

Namaste, Salaam, Highest Blessings and Bliss to you all.
Welcome to Canadian Thanksgiving Weekend. “observed the 2nd Monday in October”, It is kind-of-supposed-to-be-a-celebration-of-harvest. First Nations celebrated the harvest, long before anyone else came here. Traditional “harvest” festivals, all over the world, were about being “thankful” for what we were blessed with. Om nama Shivaya.
We have many blessings, all of us. Starting with our MINDS and the vast opportunities we have to use them. Our minds are amazing! (but dont hurt your brain thinkin’ about it too much…existentialists notwithstanding!)
And our BODIES are blessing each and everyone of us on a daily basis. Pumpin blood, beatin’ hearts, poopin, talking, blinking, even typing on keys.
and….eating.
Be happy. You have food.
Om hare Om. Take a minute to really ponder it. We are such luckylucky bastards. Remember that and remember those who are hungry. (if you see them, GIVE THEM HALF YOUR FUCKING SANDWICH FOR GODSSAKE!) *note:this digression is a whole other blog but until then, dont let me catch you ignoring the dude outside the skytrain station…I get it if you dont want to give him your “spare change”..but give him your apple. You can get another one.)
The thing that kinda blows about Thanksgiving is the whole “turkey” thing.
I wont preach to you about “turkey murder” …..but I just think that, perhaps, it is a bit passe? Bit of a snore? (okayokay…as well it is an excuse to massacre all the loveydoveyturkeys)
May I offer a suggestion? Pizza? LOL! Or Popcorn? (or anything you usually enjoy?)
I’ve included a photograph that includes an easy recepie for “Daily Salad” that can be modified to your own taste.
I get that it’s “traditional”(a habit) to do the “turkey thang”, so i would love to invite you to click on this link I found:
http://www.vegcooking.com/holiday-faux.asp
It may be helpful in offering some alternatives.
Of course, PETA may also be of great assistance to you. :)
Yo! I’m just here to provide info. LOL!
I do feel extremely grateful, as always, for everyday…for Nicklas, for my family+friends, for every scrap of food I am fortunate enough to eat, for my abilities and even for my shortcomings..and vices like naughtyBubbleGum (and EVERY day is a “new” day with a clean slate and a fresh opportunity NOT to batter my teeth with evil gum!). I am grateful and give Thanks for YOU fine people. Om Shanti to you. You fucking rule, as ever.
I am very grateful and thankful to live in a nice town where things are, basically pretty chill.
Unless I go walk my sandwich-pal-from-the-skytrain-station home…..and I discover- he IS.
Be Thankful for what you have.
Gratitude will keep you happy.
Big lovey hugs,
Om hare Om,
Biffy

i cant do without turkey on thanksgiving if i decide to cook it – but i can do with the outdated notion of having ‘all the trimmings’ and a table so full of food and guests stuffed to the gills – having been through what you’ve been through= and not being able to eat more than yogurt and sushi for a year = it made me sick watching how most people mindlessly stuff food down their gullets, complain of being full, and then go on to have dessert because ‘it tastes so good’.
and yeah.. i’ll give that guy outside the skytrain my apple, or buy him a street vendor hot dog, or find him a sandwich any day.
good blog.

Thanks Bif for reminding us of these things :). And no turkey for me either of course. I may even skip the Tofurkey this year too and go totally raw.
I hope you come tour in London Ontario again soon, but wait til I get back from England!! haha :D I leave next Monday (Oct.19) and won’t be back for almost a month!! Yay!! :)
Take care :)

Hi Bif.
Just a quick message off topic.
My sister rang me yesterday saying that your video for Let Down was on T.V. This is a rare thing in England cos to be honest i have never seen your videos over here except when i find them on youtube. To make it even better the channel “Scuzz” was doing a top 50 sexiest rock videos. You were in the top 20 of them.

“Be happy. You have food.” You’re so right; we are lucky lucky bastards. This Thanksgiving I’ll make sure to give specific thanks, not just for the food infront of me, but for the water I can drink and not have to boil first, for the clean air I breathe, for the love in my life. Namaste!

Once I gave a homeless man half of my spaghetti dinner.
Also, whenever I drive into Vancouver, I take extra bananas to hand out to the homeless folks. I know that if someone gave me a banana if I was living on the street, I would be very grateful.
I love Thanksgiving because I make some yummy dishes. I have this recipe for sweet potatoes whipped with coconut milk, a vegan pumpkin pie recipe, and tofurky in the fridge! I won’t lie, I love to eat. I am on a bodybuilder diet (vegan of course!) and I eat eat eat all the time. Lots of oatmeal, bananas, veggies, tofu, and everything else I can get my hands on! Lol!
And every year I am thankful to be with my family, be healthy, have a warm house, and food in my belly. It feels good. I wish everyone could be as happy as me.
Cheers!

Great blog Biffy, I understand how people take food and things for granted each day. Each day I am thankful I have enough food to get me by and even though my house is a bit of a wreck it is still shelter and it’s the people here that keep me from moving that I like to call “family” :) I love experimenting with new foods, so I may just give some of those recipes a try… I do still eat meat but I am open to anything really. Unless it’s calamari… or prawns… *holds in a gag* they just remind me of oversized maggots :( *shudder* Happy Thanksgiving everyone, and DON’T LET ANY FOOD GO TO WASTE! Donate an extra can of cranberries that you haven’t opened to the foodbank :)

pilgrims and turkeys! thanks to mother nature and to the natives who are the original inhabitants of this portion of the earth in which i am so blessed to dwell. thanks for shelter, water, and for turkey which has triptiphane in it, (the natural “drug” that makes you happy and calm. ) if i ate turykey i would feel calm after, i suppose. but seeing as i can’t let go of the fact that the bird was a bird, i haven’t had any for dinner in a long time. happy gathering, v.
