Van Family…

Namaste! Salaam! Howdydoo! Buenos Dias! And Yippie Tie-Yie-Yo from Alberta! Yeeehaw! Yes, I am sending you my energy from The Road and I trust it finds you all surrounded by positivity and abundance. :)
I am at the tail end of a seven-hour-van drive (its easier than a bus for these week-out-then-home-for-a-week-then-out-for-two-weeks-then-home-for-a-week tours). Last night I was off stage and in bed by 2:30 and up at 5am to shower+spackle before our departure. As I leave the venue immediately after the show, and the band stays to be Good Ambassadors and the crew stays to disassemble the stage, I’m only guessing they were up MUCH LATER than moi (and up just as early). Poor bastards! :(
But, MAN! Are they ever funny when they are underslept!
The van breakdown:
Jason drives. He wants to. Feels he may be “more efficient” than others, skilled with Andretti-like control of the vehicle no matter the speed. Has only “jacknifed” trailer once.
The General sits shotgun. Always. NO EXCEPTIONS. This is an unspoken and understood rule. I think it might be in The Bible. Maybe even the “old” Testament.
Christie (whom the band refers to as “Sixteen” but I still don’t know why) sits in the first bench seat as she is advancing upcoming shows and talkin’ technical riders with promoters, etc.etc. She never gets to sleep. She never complains and is always smiling. Always.
Then there’s some combination of myself, Flav, and Jacen on the next seat. Flavio is very funny in the morning. As is Jacen. PLUS its likely they are functioning on verrrrrrry little sleep.
The Diamond(Jimmy) almost always sleeps all morning on the very back bench seat. He likes sleeping very much. He looks like a young boy when he is sleeping. He does not snore. Well..not usually.
Then, last but not least: lil’ol moi.
Morning Girl.
Today, based on my crazyhair, I was given a nickname of “Screech” because I basically look just ike that kid! Nice. LOL!
As you know, I am up earlier than everyone and I likeit this way. I don’t like being late for lobbycall (in fact I prefer to always be early for everything) plus, I’m fed+watered by the time I get there (I steal a banana from the band dressingroom at every show, for the next mornin’s breakfast)
Today, the van-trailer pulled into a TimHorton’s for breakfast.
I can’t really eat ONE SINGLE THING on their menu. (Although the “timbits” look like the Indian dessert, Gulab Jamun, to me…not that I can eat that either. But I suuuuure did when I was a little kid!)
The band+crew like the coffe from there and they get doughnuts sometimes. The General likes their chili.
I guess we have a symbiotic system down. Like a little family.
Awwwwwwwww! *gush* that’s so cool, to me. I cherish the feeling. It makes my heart warm.
As we play these dates out here (and the dry, Alberta air thins the voice and clears the skin-but-chaps-our-delicate-Westcoast-lips) I am truly having such fun (like always) and I so enjoy the company of my band+crew-family.
A bunch of good eggs.
I am enjoying seeing everyone at the shows and you are all very rambunctious and lovey. I fuckin LIVE for that!!!! The whole band does! Its what we work toward every day: that night’s gig.
That time on stage erases every agonizing drive, every underslept headache, every homesickness, every hunger pang. YOU guys make it worth it. You are the present under everyday’s christmastree! You are the reward.
You.
Thank you!!!! *hugs*
I’ve put that photo on top: it was taken right before we go on stage (I think THAT one was Calgary). We are horsin’ around. Excited and anticipating headbangin, ripsnortin fun.
Like I do everyday.
And I hope to see you there.
Be well and always be strong and soft at the same time. And remember to laugh at everything. If you can’t…just remember your friend, “Screech” with the crazyhair. I will laugh with you.
And so will the band. :)
Om Nama Shivaya.
Rock-n-fuckin-roll.
Love,
Biffy

Wish I could have been there in Edson last night.. I keep missing your shows (missed kelowna because I was camping then couldnt find a ride there) then I was in Edson on the 6th and found out you were comming there (of all freaking places.. edson.. really?) but I was SOOOO excited, then we left and I was organising bus tickets and whatnot (fun!.. not.. but it would have been worth it) AND THEN I finally get a call for an interview where I now work.. hows that for timing.. you wait for a call from all the places youve applied at ALL SUMMER and the minute you get excited and make plans to do somthing BAM.. tied down. I am so disappointed .. All my friends in edson were like.. we will go for you! but thats just not the same lol.. ANYWAY I hope the rest of your touring goes Amazingly!

Ahh Lethbridge! I have some family there. My sister was born there, and we used to live there for a short time when I was a baby. I visited there last year during the summer and saw the old house we used to live in.
I stayed there for about 4 days or so and almost died. Lol! It was very tough for me to find vegan food. I went to the Superstore and managed to buy some soy milk and baby carrots. I munched on them in my hotel room. I also survived off Vega, mixing it with water straight out of the tap. I got bit by a mosquito before I went home and came down with the flu. I thought it was West Nile but it wasn’t.. I’m so lucky! Hehehe. It gets HOT there. Very hot and dry. I got burnt in 10 minutes during my cousin’s wedding.
Fun times!
Speaking of silly hair, I’m starting to look like Elvis. So you can be Screech, and I’ll be Elvis. Thankyouthankyouverymuch!!
Elvis has left the blog.

Nice pics. Still awfully peeved that I NEVER see NY dates forf tours Not your fault of course, since I forget Canada is a totally separate country. I guess I’ll be fifty when I finally get to see your show. Nah, I exaggerate. As soon as I get my Suburban, I’m pointing it north and going to Canada, eh! Been 19 years since I crossed the border into your lovely country by thumb. That’s some story. Anywho, Love the blogs, love your ‘tude on life, love your hair (I am also a poodle head), looing forward to the new album. A la prochaine, cherie, bon chance et quel Deus vous benisse.

WOOHOOOO!! Thanks for touring!! I am praising the concert gods for allowing me to take in so many awesome shows this year!! Just saw P!nk in Seattle last week and the Hip in Banff on the weekend – going to Campus Chaos tonight – so it will be my 5th Bif show in 5 months – I am truly blessed and admittedly a concert whore.
I hope I never lose the excitement of attending your shows – it is as if time stops for me – unreal!!
Take care and have a super day!
Liza =)

Bif, you rock harder than anyone else I know. Well, considering I don’t “know” you, that is… you still rock very hard. You always a great attitude about everything and I wish more people were like you. And just remember, while you wouldn’t be you without us, we wouldn’t be us without you either. :) I’ll sleep a little extra for you and the crew and pass it your way!

the only thing i get at tim hortons is a seat in the back. i.e., toilet seat. covered of course or straddled.
if the opportunity presents itself i have committed myself to be driver, roadie, pourer of beer, string changer …whatever the man needs.
a marvellous blues man from hamilton, ontario.
oh i so hope.
your bus sounds like a barrel of fun. glad you’re having it.

even while touring around you can manage to support this blog for all of us…thanks for that!!! i hope to ketch another one of your shows sometime, whether thats in ontario, saskatchewan, or somewhere else. the praries have a lot of natural beauty, storms, the horizon, its all too beautiful there. imagine, some call it dull. i suppose being with your cozy van family makes it even more enjoyable. laughter, love and light must keep you all going. thanks be to all of you no matter what fuels you, although it seems true that timbits can’t possible sustain you for long. they are only bits afterall, and while i would really like to say a tim bit joke i won’t. see you, somewhere, somehow, sometime. v

Bif, a quick note to first say congrats to you and your husband on your second anniversary, it’s a real journey, no?
Secondly, caught your act at Campus Chaos at the Northlands Agricom on Friday night. You rock the casbah and always have. Thoroughly enjoyed the show and admire your spitfire energy! I walked out feeling very positive and switched on. You exude the energy and positivity that fuel you, for that, thank you and always, blessings.

I saw you in Calgary on the 22nd … and you were AMAZING!! I was right up front, and I was in awe the entire time. I have never been able to see one of my role models so close before. The way my sister put it, we could’ve spit on you (though we wouldn’t've wanted to!) — it was great! Something I will never forget! My ears were still ringing the next day … but it was SO worth it. Thanks for putting on such a great show!
