PLEASE Watch Because I Want U Safe…
NaaaaaaaaaaaaMASte!!!!!! Namaskar! Salaam! Bonjour! Highest Loveydovey Blessings to everyone! I hope this day finds you experiencing the most beautiful and peaceful frame of mind, and that all your cups are full or half-full, at least. LOL!
This morning I am quite contemplative. I am thinking of you, of me, and of all of us who are fortunate enough to have “gadgets”. Yup.
Gadgets.
As you know, this is the FIRST YEAR OF MY COMPUTERTHINGY. No. I neverever owned one, alllll these years. Oh, sure:theyy were in the office, at the studio, my pals all had ‘em, the band even had ‘em….but I never did. Didnt care. Had my sketchbooks. Wrote everything down (still do) and didnt know how to type. Still dont. Dont really care. LOL! (cant you see bythe typos? And remember: I SEND my blog to be uploaded. I cant actually do it myself. Yes, I am aware my 5yr old Goddaughter can navigate the computer better than moi! I think my babydog even knows what “blogger” is!)
I had a cellular telephone as I didnt want/need a “land line” due to touring for my entire adult life. I never learned how to “Text” and dont understand it because I call everyone. Plus, my last couple phones have some strange trick of finnishing the word before i type it (and its always the WRONG word!) which frustrated me…so I never bothered to learn that, either. Still dont know how.
My managers DID, however, get me a Blackberry in, like, 1999, or something, when they first came out.
This was because they needed to send me “flight documents/itineraries” or “press schedules” or “hotel confirmation” info, etc.etc.
So….Ive always had one of those. I am an expert thumbtyper. My blackberries have webstuff on em, but I dont know how to use it so I dont. Plus all the instant messanging, etc. Dont know how. Dont care.
They DID make a “twitter” picture that I clik on, from the thumbtyper, and it instantly will go on the internet twitter thing.
I do not know how to use a facebook. THAT fact does infuriate most of my personal friends, as they are constantlyconstantly on there. I dont get it because I can call them. LOL!
I use my Blackberry all the time all the time. Always have. I have been on that for ten years, instead of computers.
but now, I am learning. It is very remarkable to me. I watch BBC news on it everysingle morning.
And……I see stuff like Hare Krishna parades or Animal Protection agencies or cooking shows or cancer surgeries or band videos or photo journals, etc.etc. I have never been on ebay because I dont want anything, and I have only bought two things on the internet which were both wigs (when I started chemo, last year)
Then my creditcard number was stolen and that was the end of THAT! I am such a fuddyduddy I wont likely everever buy anything on the computer ever again! LOL!
I still mail cheques for bills, parking tickets, vets, charity donations, etc. Its just how I run.
OLD SCHOOL! DIY! We skatepunks was po’ (yes it means “poor”! LOL!) and NONE of us had a computer. We were busy skatin and playing shows and sharing burritos in The Mission district and gettin robbed and getting in fights and on and on and on. Computer technology was not a priority. NOW, bands STILL do all those things PLUS their own websites from their personal laptops in their van! I say that is PROGRESS! ….but I still like the way I live in darkness/ignorance/bliss. I survived this long. :)
I have used my Blackberry in my car, however. And I am confessing that to you.
Like most of us: I am a busybee. Hit the ground, running, every morning (and you KNOW how early I am up) and I have so much crammed into everyday, that I multitask (like a pro, BTW) and I am efficient and do my very best everyday, to make my commitments and make/keep everyone happy.
So, sometimes, the only opportunity I have to shoot a quick reply to an email (office/press/family/doctor related……not many people email me) is en route to, or from something.
But……not anymore.
You and I know it is a slippery slope, it is “unsafe”, “wrong”, “not cool” to be using a gadget in the car. But I still do it.
Then i saw this video on the internet and it made me want to show you right away…..because it made me cry.
not that I want YOU to cry…but it made an impact on me.
And, since we are all friends, here, I want to share this with you.
I am going to modify my behaviour and NOT use my blackberry in the car anymore (unless it is parked).
Scout’s Honour. Double stamp, no erasies. Really. That simple. I mean: NICKLAS is in the fucking car with me, for God’s sake! Cant even imagine.
Dont want to.
So…..I learned that I am more lucky than I already THOUGHT I was! I am lucky I got away with thumbtyping-while-driving for long enough.Whew! cool. Get out while the gettin’s good. :)
Et Vous, Beautiful Ones? Am I just a suck?
I like ya…dont want anything to befall you fine people.*hug* So……just THINK about it, at least.
I will be sending you pureness and love energy from my heart, and I hope you have a joyful and SAFE week.
Om Nama Shivaya. Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna. Fuckin’Horns. and Rock Out Wid’Ya Cock Out (proverbial, yo! non-gender specific!LOL!)
and, Sai Ram.
Love,
Biffy
xoxo

Heartbreaking video. I can text like a mad woman, however i am a pedestrian, im not to concerned about MYSELF causing a stroller accident on the sidewalk, however, getting collided into by a moron off the road, because they are texting and i am pushing my baby ( ok toddler whatever) around in a stroller and then get smooshed, not on my to do list.
logic is against doing something as stupid, as texting and driving.
thank you her royal majesty for sharing such vital information. its a shame some people cant figure it out for them selves.
i belelive its illegal to do so around here ( text, and drive ) i wonder why.. har har.
good day Bif xox

THANK YOU. You may have just saved my life bif. i will never ever do that again. people don’t realize, and it should be common sense but common sense ain’t that common unfortunately and we should know better but sometimes it takes something like that to make you stop and realize. thanks a million biffy. it totally takes away your concentration. never again….luv ya.

wow, nothing lik a depressing video to start my day. like im not already bummed out enough hahaha. anyway, you crack me the fuck up about cell phones and computers and shit. i never wanted a cell phone. i think i got one when i turned like 22 or 23. i hated them. i always had a land line, but now i dont even have one of those. im a simple kid, and the smallest things make me happy. i get on the computer to file my unemployment cause america is awesome witht he economy right now. everyone losing jobs cant find one. been a year, worst year of my life.
i have forgotten what was important to me. music was my life for a long time then i got busy doing this, working, going to school, i forgot what made me the happiest. i felt like i lost huge part of my life and trying to gain something back. but music has turned for the worst. its not like back when i was growing up on grunge and punk music.
i didnt even know you were diagnosed with cancer til a few days ago. i was always on top of the music scene knew all what was going on. im glad to see you made an awesome recovery. cancer runs in my family, its a scary thing.
have i bored you yet? haha. im just glad to se someones around that i listened to when i was so into music. and your music really hasnt changed that much which is great. no mainstream bullshit. fuck the mainstream. oh i must say i saw the twitch video on itunes i think you look real ho in that video..lol lucky your married r id sweep you off your feet with my charm hahahahaha righhht.

I saw this video the other day, actually. It left me thinking for a long time afterwards. I actually didn’t watch the whole thing cuz Silvio (my spousy) kept fast forwarding through it! Made me mad cuz this is something EVERYONE should see! Especially young drivers because I see them using their phones ALL the time.
On the way to your show in Cloverdale we were almost in an accident because of some irresponsible person who changed lanes without looking cuz she was on her phone. People with these “gadgets” often become so self absorbed in what they’re doing that they neglect other’s safety, and some are actually quite rude!!
Speaking of shows, Bif. Your show at the Commodore has SOLD OUT!! Congratulations!! I got my tickets early though. I’m so happy! See ya Thursday!!

makes me glad i ride the bus almost like a faces of death video!
August 24th, 2009 at 4:46 PM
I’m going to show this video to my husband. I don’t text or answer the phone while I drive, because I’m an anxious driver as it is, and I’ve almost been in tons of accidents by other people on the road being irresponsible. but my hubby will text up a storm, even on the highway! It’s ridiculous!
BTW, Bif, I happened across a picture of you while I was on the Internet. My two-year-old daughter was sitting on my lap and she pointed at you and said, “Pretty!” She doesn’t know your name; she only knows you as Pretty. It was the most adorable thing EVER!

That big train wreck in California a while back was caused by the conductor who was texting on his cell. He went through the red light.
Bif… and everyone else… use PayPal when you buy stuff on the interwebz. It’s much safer.

Oh my god……. I already yell at people when they use their phones or ipods while driving…. I am going to flip on them now! Very, very powerful, thank you so much for posting.

I just wanna post one thing about Paypal.. I use computers every single day at work and at home.. and all I hear about is how easy Paypal is.. but I can’t figure that shiznit out.
But yes, never give your credit card number to anyone!!! Or if you do, get one of those gift ones and only put $100 or so on it.
That’s what I used to order my Archie comics online. :D

It’s a welsh video!!! wierd… good message though. I never ever use my phone in my car…. never ever ever have or will. Glad this video was made to make people aware
August 25th, 2009 at 4:40 AM
I don’t own a phone and ride a 1000cc Kawasaki ZX-10R so there will be NONE of that! OmShanti,Love You Bif!
August 25th, 2009 at 5:07 PM
Bif would you ever consider publishing one of your sketchbooks? Maybe a bit like Courtney Love’s book Dirty Blonde, that’s a chronological collection of diary entries, drawings, essays, never used and early incarnations of song lyrics, photos and stuff from over the years.
Part of the fun of a new Bif Naked album is flipping through the liner notes while listening to the songs. I think that sort of stuff would make a good book.

Wow that video scares me!! I wont and dont text while driving and should and will do my best to not talk on the celly when driving . But to think other people do , they can still harm me! I’ll do my part to keep myself and others safe. I just wish the rest of the motorists will too!!
I also ride my bicycle for commuting daily and thats scary enough in its self.
Be thank full for everyday, you never know if it could be your last.
August 25th, 2009 at 10:17 PM
Never ever have I txted while driving.. EVER in my car yes but never driving 2 kids back there plus my beautiful pooch and hubby when he is home. Friends and family laugh and shrug when I tell them not too.. thinking “Oh it wont happen to me” Oh but it could and it can… I hope not of course.. but it can still happen.
Thanks for this Bif… I have plastered it all over my FB for my family and friends.

Such a crazy video and a good reminder that our actions can directly affect others – for the worse in this case. My youngest brother was killed in a collision when he was 10, so I try do my part to be a good driver so my Mom doesn’t have to go through that again – but it’s really hard!!
You do very well with your blackberry! Your twitter messages crack me up!! Thanks for sending some sunshine my way!!
Take care,
Liza =)

im all for scaring the stupids out of people, and am very against texting while driving, but that one scene with the open eyed baby not responding broke my heart in a million pieces and will not leave my brain.
I can handle the gore, and the guts, but after having watched my father succumb to cancer, and seeing the difference between breathing life, and that stillness of that next breath just not coming, my heart hurt after seeing that blank stare in those young eyes. I checked on my babes a million times that night :(

It remind me of the french campaign against going over the speed limit (don’t know if it’s a good translation), the videos were shorter than this one, but extremely violent and realistic, so hard to endure.
It’s incredible the number of people phoning in their car, and some other are reading in the same time (that’s true, I’ve ever seen this!).
