HareKrishna, HAIR-ay Krishna!

Namaste! Salaam! Bonjour! Salut! Sussreekall! Yo! Yo! And Word Up to all you BeautifulWonderful People! I am sending you optimum energy and immense positivity on this Monday morning. Whereever you are, may you be experiencing creativity and abundance.
As you can see, by the photo I’ve included, I am experiencing abundance.
ABUNDANCEFUCKINCURLYHAIR!
Are you kidding me??? LOL!
Since my hair dissolved+fell out during chemotherapy, I anticipated its eventual return with a pragmatism and optimism that kept me laughing about my noggin’s shiny dome. Why be weirded out about it, right? I mean, it was EXPECTED. IT WAS SUPPOSED TO ALL FALL OUT (along with eyebrows, eyelashes, and armpitaroonis!)
So, I dealt. Laughed. Got some stellar wigs. Touques. Whatevvvv.
I had bigger fish to fry, than sweat it about chemonoggin. :)
I rolled.
Then it grew backk, eventually, the lenugo (white fuzz) was first, then it grew into THISDEADFUCKINGANIMALONMYHEAD!!!!!!! Har!Har!Har!*slaps knee*
Yes. Allright. The Universe was gracious enough to allow ANY of it to grow back. But I’ve never had hair this curly.
It is still growing more curls, Lovey Ones. Like Carol Burnette in 75. Or Maud. (May Bea rest in Peace with Sri Annastasia snuggling her!!!)
Now, I am perhaps self-concious. Shallow. I mean: am I so weak that my “shell”/appearance is gonna permeate my thoughts and conversations. Am I that weak and insecure? Do I need “reassurance” like some weakling?
No and no.
I will tell you a FACT: I am a Flawed Human. Like we all are, I am always wanting to find better ways to evolve my conciousness and open heart.
I just had to share this “Kodak Moment” with you. You, my Cherished Friends. *beam*
I just wanted to say “OhmyGoodness can you believe how ridiculous this is!!!”
I havebeen offered expensive hair extensions (no, not for free! LOL!) And I have turned them down only yesterday.
I shaved the side of my head instead.
Whahoooooooie! Fuck em in da neck!
I do own a hair-straightener and use it every day (except today…so after I washed it I just let it dry by itself and do what it wanted.) And THIS is what it wanted to do!!!!! LOL!
Umm……baseball cap, Baby!
Have a blessed, beautiful week and shine your light!!!!!! Our INSIDE LIGHT always outshines the crazyhair!!!!
Let it be blindingly BRIGHT!!!!! Go shine.
Om Hare Om. Hare Hare Om.
Love,
Biffy
Xoxo

Funny – my hair grew in curly after chemo too…hmmm. I just use soap, believe it or not, and shape it into a faux-hawk…seems to work for now.

THANK YOU for posting this! My hair is growing back now, too. And I am having the SAME issue. It is so damned curly I can’t control it. I do try to use a hair straightener every day, but that is tiring. When I just ‘let it go’, it is a freakin curly mess!! I have been really self concious about it and am thankful to see I’m not the only one … Thanks for having a positive outlook and lifting MY spirits as well :) You’re AHmazing!
(PS: Try using some curling hair products … it’s actually kind of fun!)

Namaste B!
Believe it or not, this very subject came up when I was at my hairdresser’s last week.
According to my hairdresser girlfriend, quite often post chemo hair comes in curly and wiry, (what, like pubic hair???)
It does eventually grow out though, B.
My afro child spends a lot of time using the flatiron on her hair too.
The grass is always greener, eh?

As a member of the Male species who suffers through the natural state of the Folically Challenged, I do feel your pain with having to go through the loss of your hair Biff, mind you, it took me 19 years to get where I am today, not Chemo, but hey, got to try to connect somehow . . LOL
Thanks for keeping us in the loop with regards to your life, and keep doing what you do best! Never let the curly curls of your scalp get you down!

YOU are the MOST most positive (and thus most inspiring) person I have come across, and you have just made my day with all your energy and humour. I am INSPIRED. I was where you are now 3 years ago, and my response was to keep my unruly hair short, spiky and PURPLE.

Hahaha!!! OMG, I loved this blog post! Nothing wrong. You are just being a girl, cuz you ARE a girl! I think you look great. And your hair will get less curly as it grows. Shorter hair always goes more curly. You look so cute right now!!! Those big eyes can make anything look good. Love you so much, Bif. You continue to make me giggle with your blogs! And I needed it today. Thank you. *kisskisskisskisskiss*

my hair is growing too i got about 12-15 inches of hair ready to donate to cancer in your honour girl.. this summer was terrible with the heat. i wont cut it until next spring though so hopefully we’ll have like 20 inches. it all should make nice wigs. i have never dyed my hair or ever blow dry it so it should be quailty goods. ^_~.

Thanks for being so damn funny on a day where a smile is SO needed. I have not had chemo, or lost my hair, but do suffer from that whole “shell” permeating my thoughts just because I don’t get that whole thing. I have lots of friends that do not look normal and are, or ones who look normal and aren’t (none of this is bad, I’m just saying). But dude, your like one of the few chicks who can pull off short, curly, post-chemo hair and still look like our alwayskickingass punk queen.
Thanks for your ever inspiring words-o-wisdum

Well roll with it! ;) Mine grew back flat so why don’t we just split the difference?? ;)

What’s wrong with worrying about your appearance it only arrogant if its all you care about. And i’m no fashion nut either i mostly wear jeans and some heavy metal shirt.

I had always heard that if you shave your head your hair will grow back curly… but only for certain people! My friend shaves hers all the time and it just grows back normal… I suppose it is different to shave than to have it fall out though… but either way, I WOULD DIE FOR CURLS! I am so jealous of you! You look beautiful no matter what ^.^ I just love your big beautiful eyes, I think eyes are everyones best feature… the windows to the soul… and you have a BIG heart and a WONDERFUL soul! <3 heehee! *hugs* you look great, pretty lady!

You have that same tomboy look you had when you were younger and your youth seems not that long ago. Then as now you could probably get away with all sorts of mischief with nothing more than a sheepish smile and your quirky way of rolling your eyes LOL.
Keep it real

I don’t care what you say, Bif you hair is AWESOME! It may look silly first thing in the morning, but we ALL have crazy hair in the morning.
Take my hubby for example. He’s a dental hygienist and has to look all clean-shaven and stuff but he gets a 5 o’ Clock shadow at noon ok. On the weekends he looks like a bum. Lol!
And then there’s me. I am lazy and cheap and cut my own hair. Like after I read your blog I decided I wanted bangs.. Well, I sorta mutilated my hair.. But managed to make it look cute anyways. I’d love to have short hair like yours. Just a year ago it was really short, just above chin length and now it’s past my shoulders. I don’t know what makes it grow so fast. It just does.
I wanna chop it all off. Short hair is rockin’ and very punk.

Bif, I have not had cancer and I didn’t have to lose all of my hair the way you did, but I do have hypothyroidism and before I started taking meds, my hair started falling out strand by strand, dude! I started looking like the Crypt Keeper! I had patches of hair! So not cool! I’m so glad I didn’t take any pictures of that. The best thing about that was that I didn’t have to shave my legs at all during that time! It’s all over now and my hair is growing in thick again (not such a great thing in sunny Florida, but I sure as hell am not gonna complain about it) and unfortunately I do have to shave now. :( Small price to pay, hunny. Small price to pay.
At least we’re all still kicking, y’all!

YEOWZA – you got some curls!! haha You look great!! I have had curly hair my whole life – my Mom use to cut it short when I was a kid so it wasn’t out of control – as a result I look like a little boy in the childhood pics standing beside my Sister with beautifully long and straight hair.
I reallly didn’t know what the frick to do with it growing up until I found Joico mousse – it is a blessing!! Nowadays, I pretty much straighten it half of the week and wear it curly the other half – just happy to have hair actually.
Nice shout out to Bea – i have the golden girls theme song as a ringtone on my cell – I am such a geek but laugh everytime I hear it!!
Have a super week!!
Liza =)

you are beautiful !!!!… during my experience with Chemo and radiation for Hodgkin’s at 22(11 years ago), not all of my hair fell out… I cut it very very short and slept on satin pillows (the doctors told me the softer the fabric the less it rubs and supposedly less falls out, but in not sure ’bout that). As my hair grew out after chemo it was super thin yet wirey with the ‘normal’ thickness on the tips… not to mention the left side of my head from my neck to the hight of my ear was completely bald from radiation treatments… I looked Hilarious!! so after 6 months of trying to bear with that I shaved my head! My mom Balled (we did everything we heard of so i wouldnt loose it) but I gave my little brother the pleasure if ‘bic’ing it :P he loved that… it took almost a year for most of that bald patch to grow in but it’s still sparse :P oh ya and I suddenly had white hairs, 22 and white hairs can u imagine, oh well I just told people its part of my battle scars :P I’m just thankful I had a guardian angel to help me beat the monster!! on my 1 year anniv from finishing chemo I got her tatto’d on my back as the first of my many tattoo’s!!! you were a huge inspiration for those :P and now for so much more…
Hugz and best wishes!

I really like your writing style, its not generic and extremly long and tedious like a lot of blog posts I read, you get to the point and I really enjoy reading your articles! Oh, and merry Christmas!
